Default No SIM CARD DETECTED!!! - 05-07-2009, 03:41 PM

Hi,
I live in UK. Bought my MINI a month ago, installed pci-e socket and sim card slot as noted on these forums with parts as recommended by one of the posts over here. Got the 5530 modem from eBay, however when i put everything together it says No Sim Card detected. Tried different things:

Checked the soldering 3 times
Tried different drivers and software (Dell, Vodafone, Ericsson)

I was wandering if there's a possibity that my modem would be locked to some network but what would it say when the SIM card is inserted in the locked modem... Confused... HELP!!!

Thanks

This could be that a sim card is rejected by the card but usually it would say sim rejected or enter subsidy code. this sounds to me as if u have a bad sim card slot or your pins so not match up correctly. any chance you could post a picture of your sim card slot where it is soldered. also what brand/model sim card slot did u use (possibly the pin outs are in the incorrect order)? Also what OS did u install on your mini, if it is vista/win 7 make sure that the Smart Card service is running in services. Start -> Run -> Services.msc to check. XP does not have this to my knowledge but you can double check. Linux or OSX, I cant help ya if it is a software issue.

Also what model 5530 did u get? XX982 is the USA model. KM266 is UK Model

Hi

I have the exact same problem. I have a Dell 1555 Laptop and I bought a KM266 and I am in Australia. I installed Dell Wireless Manager software in Vista 64bit. Modem is detected correctly but SIM card , the software says no sim detected. Please help. I have searched exhaustively and not found anything. Using 3 network SIM in Australia.

I've had this a dozen times... here we go.

I don't know why but if you remove all instances of VMC in Add & Remove problems in Control Panel and then...

...after shutdown...open the cover on the underside of the mini and remove the modem... install Wireless Manager from the Dell website... go to shutdown...

...put the modem back in, restart and the Wireless Manager will find any sim in the slot next time you run it.

After this you can change the sim after shutdown ONCE more (I go from Vodafone to Orange regularly in the UK) and then it's back to the hassle above.

Regarding mods for non gsm equipped Mini 9's I have the correct sockets available (without the 'sim inserted' pin) if anyone needs them.

Anyway good luck with this above.

James :-)

VMC is Vodafone Mobile Connect.

If you hit CTRL/ALT/DELETE you can see how much Vodafone stuff boots at startup (another reason to ditch the Vodafone Software as well).

Anything with VMC stuff seems to override the modem when running other software.

I've got a colleague who's buzzed the sim slot and it is a software issue NOT hardware. If all else fails then remove everything from hardware devices (modem related of course- not everything!) and when Windows 'finds' new hardware simply point to the drivers elsewhere on this forum for the Caroline Jones GPS Hack and that'll give you GPS as well.

You can sort this out though.

The problem I think he is having that it never detected the SIM card since he installed it, not that it just stopped working. Either there is a software problem (unlikely) or the hardware wasn't soldered in correctly or is incompatible/damaged.

I have had similar problems with this, and think I have finally nailed it down. For some reason the Mini manages to retain the SIM information even when the Mini is off.

I found the solution was to Shutdown the Mini, remove the power, take off the battery, replace the SIM, then, and this is KEY...LEAVE THE BATTERY OUT FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES.....so there is no power to the Mini from either battery or Power Supply....then replace the battery and fire up the Mini, then open Wireless Manager and it should find your SIM.

Looks like the Power has to completely die on the Mini in order for it to reset the SIM...weird!!

Works for me every time, if still a problem, try leaving the battery out for even longer.

This would explain also why this works, the Mini or the 3G card is completely without power when removed and re-inserted. But hopefully for all of you, this procedure won't be necessary. Just remove all power (A/C and battery) to the Mini and let it discharge for a few minutes.
