If you're using a provider that is not GSM and doesn't require a sim card e.g. Verizon/Sprint then as long as your minipcie card is registered you should be able to pop it and run with whatever software they provide for your OS.
3) Can you use another SSD in the spare minipcie? unknown, I don't have an extra ssd card but from what I've read around the forum the pin settings are different for the wwan ergo you can't.

Requests:
Anyone know where to find spare cables for the internal usb webcam/bluetooth. I've read one of our members has sources the parts but hte crimper is $2-300 .. yikes.

Anyone know if we can source just the cables from the touchscreen kits?

Cheers!

Read my posts in this thread. I was able to purchase the USB controller and the cables for $45 shipped next day from Taiwan. They were easy to deal with and responded to emails fairly quickly. Unfortunately, I've been too busy to install it yet!

You said you emailed the seller. Which seller? Do you have an email content along with part description # that the rest of us could use to contact. I'd be willing to try this out since I don't have the webcam or bt modules.

Great work jingo5! Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I submitted a request for 2 Sim Connectors: Part # SIMS60-620-F from Major League Electronics. I received the following response within 24 hours:

We do not give samples of this part with such a low annual usage. These come in reels of 500 minimum.

I only put 40 as my annual usage on the form. Does anyone know if we could possibly pick up the Sim connector elsewhere? Also, if anyone is willing to send me 2 connectors that they get from Major League Electronics, I'd would be more than happy to cover the shipping.

Does anyone know if I can just use the same SIM card that I use in my phone, which has the unlimited data plan? I have AT&T.

Now before I get flamed to death for this, I literally am talking like using it once every few months when I happen to be somewhere with the Mini that I don't have any Wifi and I absolutely need it for something that I just can't browse to or do on my phone (especially since my phone would be unusable during that time). I would not pay $60/mo for a service that I'd use maybe 10MB every 3 months with  And it's not like I'd be getting it free, I already pay the $35/mo or whatever for unlim data on my phone plan, and I burn through like 2-3GB per month on the phone itself, so this would be negligible.

Yes you can. This is what I do but you need to have a minipcie wwan card to do so.

NOTE: Please realize that if you can not get the exact part does not mean you are out of luck. What I've done is provide the exact pinouts for the sim card.

Traces on board: 7 1 4 2 5 3 6
Pins from SIM Connector: NA 1 5 2 6 3 7

According to the Sim Connector pdf :

Trace Board Pin 1: VCC
Trace Board Pin 4: Reserved NP on Pin 6 version
Trace Board Pin 2: RST Reset Signal
Trace Board Pin 5: GND Pwr signal and Gnd.
Trace Board Pin 3: CLCK signal
Trace Board Pin 6: VPP Programming Voltage

So.... you could use this part from digikey. It does not line up exactly but the pin layout is correct.

You will not have the first pin but it doesn't look like it's needed anyhow.

It does not include the entire board merely a right angle header. I would recommend going to http://www.eeeuser.com/ for EEEpc questions. Forums for Mini support. ^_^

So are you saying that the pin socket that you got and used from Major League wasn't a perfect fit and you had to modify the pins?

You said the board goes 7142536 but the sim card sockets go 152637(6-Pin) 15263748 (8-Pin, w/ Last 2 Not Used) so did you have to change anything to use that socket? I am just a little confused.

Also while were on the subject, seeing how anyone can get the PCIe header and install it, are there any USB SIM Card readers that could be used for people that can't source the sample part for the SIM Card Slot or aren't interested in solidering one that could use via USB for the sim card reader either internally or externally. There are a few spots interally that one could be put if it is small enough.

For example I have an extra Sierra Wireless 8781 that I ripped out of a AT&T 881 USBConnect that I was interested in putting in my fiances computer because I got an extra PCIe header but no sim slot, I was just going to use a USB Sim card reader if anyone knew of any that would work for this purpose. I see many sim card readers listed for copying contacts, etc.. but none to use to read the actual card for usage of an aircard device, unless they will do this and it just isn't listed.

I would be using Windows Vista with it if it matters that I put on my Mini.

Unknown: If you want to plunk down the money for a sim card reader feel free and try. I've seen them online for ~10-20 US dollars.

As far your pinout question. If you read the whitepapers of any sim connector that is push push if their pinout is labeled starting from left to right from a top view.
1 5 2 6 3 7 you should be fine.

My part from Major League fit the bill with the additional first pin on the left that was used for card detecting. I don't suspect this is used at all to function but it aligns perfectly.

As far as dimensions go you'll have to check yourself against what's in the whitepapers.

It seems that Farnell in the UK are about to start selling the mini PCIe slots, to be soldered to the mother board.
http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse ... i+pci&Ntx=

They also sell a number of SIM card holders, it looks like the first ones in the list might work.
http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse ... tid=998531

Ignoring packaging it look like you could at the ability to plug in a WWAN card to the Dell mini 9 for less than 5 pounds. Other than a missing antenna does anyone see a reason why this would not work?
