Default Internal 3g - 10-26-2008, 10:42 PM

Has any one considered an internal 3 g mod using the internal GPS receiver method.
USB 3g modems are now available the size of USB thumb drives. I have seen one recently that also includes a micro SD slot, which would give you some more storage as a bonus.

In the UK we have a Vodafone 3G mini 9 available for free. So i would have thought the module is available to all. I get upto 7.2 Mb/s download.

Not available here yet unfortunately, and likely locked into a contract.
I was thinking of using pre paid usb 3G modem pack with no contract.

The current air card that MY store offers from AT&T certainly looks like it might fit if broken down, but I don't know how well it would perform mounted internally.

hey fellow mini lovers.

I'm sure others have said this around the forum, but what you're suggesting is highly feasible. I know someone has done a successful "usb" adapter mod (with GPS), so 3G seems perfectly capable. The other thing, is if you have one of the Sierra Wireless USBConnect dongles from AT&T (or others I'm sure,) inside it's just a mini PCIe card.

Anyone have any experience in adding a slot to their motherboard? Seems like a fun mod for the otherwise wasted space for where they felt the urge to print "WWAN".

Here is an thread on Huawei E220 internal mod for EEEpc, which I would say has considerably less space. Not very elegant, but it appears to work.

I am tempted to get the new Huawei Usb Stick modem and have a go.
