Default Mini 1012/T-mobile mobile broadband driver (anybody has 1012 with w7 starter?) - 02-07-2012, 01:08 PM

Hi all,

I'm wondering if somebody has Dell Mini 1012/T-mobile with Huawei EM820U mobile broadband card.

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) on Mini but can't get the mobile card work.
I tried Huawei drivers 3.2 and 4.0, also tried T-mobile webConnect 2.05 (it comes with drivers) - but mobile card is not working.
After T-mobile drivers installation I see in the device manager:
HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G PC UI Interface (COM3)
HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Modem

But neither Tmobile webConnect can't see the card (it shows the Huawei 3G Modem in the device list, but doesn't show the modem IMEI, no networks, etc) nor 3rd party tools for Huawei. I've tried DC-Unlocker to see the card firmware - but it says: F/W version: DOWNSTATE

Modem worked with stock W7 Starter. I've accidentally removed restore partition when installed Ubuntu. I've spend a lot of time to identify modem, but then found a sticker on the laptop bottom: "Huawei EM820U DELL 8D9W1 A00"

Any comments are welcome. If somebody has the same Dell Mini with W7 - it would be really great if you can check the driver version.

There is usually BIOS control of broadband cards. Dell provides a "wireless switch" application that controls this. I think this is the one you need. Or maybe this, or both.

Steve,

Thanks for the prompt response.
I've already tried both. Wireless switch just turns on/off WiFi and Dell Mobile Broadband Manager says that mobile card is not responding.
I'd think that it's broken, but it would be weird because I used laptop only at home and the card worked before.
I think it is some kind of drivers issue - Huawei has the same VID and PID for different card, e.g. 12D1:1003 works for E1550, E220 and EM820U (and also EM820W - in Acer Iconia).
p.s. Before installing tmobile drivers I've purged all other installed drivers from the %sysdir%\DriverStore

Sorry, that's all I can do for you. We have a Broadband section, you could try asking there.

Steve,
Thanks, should I remove this topic before posting to the Broadband?

Nope I've installed fresh W7 (of course x86) with all dell drivers + T-Mobile webConnect for Dell Mini 1012 3g, but 3g card doesn't respond.
While I'm outside US right now, I don't think this should be a problem, anyway even if the 3g is locked (I pretty sure it's locked) I should see either network list or at least 3g modem should answer to Windows AT command.

Huawei diagnostics say that modem do not respond, so because my Dell is refurb, probably the easier to buy new modem on ebay...
