Default Prepaid wireless broadband for dell Mini 10v - 05-14-2011, 06:41 AM

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 (10v), running Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. I've used it successfully at home and in WiFi hot spots in airports. I'll be staying at a condo (in New Hampshire) that does not have WiFi. I've just heard about prepaid wireless broadband. Will such a plan work on my Mini 10v? If yes, does anyone have any recommendations? I'd especially like a no-contract plan that is easy to set up and use. Cheap (weekly or monthly charges) would also be great. As you have probably deduced, I'm not exactly a computer wiz. Thanks for any help.

The plan won't help if you don't have the hardware for it, and you don't. You can buy a USB broadband modem with a pay-as-you-go plan. I think all the major carriers offer these - you'd first want to see which one has the best coverage at your condo. An alternative to a USB broadband modem is a small WiFi base station that connects to the broadband network. Most carriers offer these too. Verizon calls theirs MiFi.

I know this maybe way late to help pegpru but for future FYI, depending on what type phone you have It is possible to tether with it if you have a data plan. I have a Nokia 5800 music express that I can tether with a usb connection or bluetooth, now it's not going to give you 3g speed but in a pinch it is a useable solution. I have used this with my Dell mini 1010 and Inspiron 700m. Hope this helps
