Default 3G issues - 09-30-2010, 09:34 PM

Hi Everyone

First post, and need help!!

I have just purchased a Mini 9, for its size and practicality.

I have also subscribed to Vodafone 3G and they supplied me with a USB dongle.

Connecting through 3G is pretty straightforward with the USB dongle, but if I take the SIM out and put it in the netbook I keep getting:

"Radio is disabled by the wireless switch. return the switch to the ENABLE position"

I cannot find any switch or anything to enable radio.

Wifi is perfectly OK.

P.S. I did some research on these forums, and I found my BIOS to be A06.

Is there a SOFTWARE way to solve this please?

Many thanks

I had this problem; I got my Mini 9 on contract with Vodafone nearly 2 years ago.

I have read that this may be an issue with the A06 BIOS. Double check in the BIOS setup that the 3G card is enabled, and try to get the latest drivers (there's links all over these forums). I managed to solve this by installing one of the latest driver packs - note, not the ones that came with it.

You could also try getting Ubuntu Netbook Remix and running it from a USB drive - if you can use the 3G in Ubuntu, you've pretty much eliminated a software problem
