Brilliant forum, everyone ! I have followed Carolina's excellent advice & got GPS enabled on my Mini 9 under XP in spite of the shambolic state of Dell drivers.

But I have the same problem as FGuardia - I receive NMEA messages, but the status stays as "Searching" and I never get a fix.

Looking for some enlightenment here, folks...

TIA,

Jolyon

Nice tip! But I couldn´t find the firmware, can you send its link?

Tks

Hi,
I'm certainly no expert but I wanted to tell you that sometimes it takes me up to 5mins to lock on to the satellites...

Firmware-wise, be careful and make sure any firmware update you do is SPECIFICALLY for your WWAN card (there are older and newer models, from what I understood).

SW-wise, I've been asking myself the same question, but for the time being, I'm simply using GoogleEarth (version 5.x) alongside the Dell-Ericsson wireless manager. GoogleEarth now has a GPS utility which allows you to track your location in realtime by using the data sent to the Com Port.

a quick question I have the GPS working and it will lock on if outside but as soon as I use it in a car even on the dash board as I have a MPV with a large area to sit the mini with a clear view through the windscreen it will hold the lock but as I drive off it drops it very easy and then takes a long time to lock on if at all again. this makes it next to useless. I have a TomTom and this sits and works as gdoes my phone with GPS in this will work anyware in the car, as will my little bluetooth GPS unit that I was useing before I found out the mini hasone built in. is there any tricks to getting a better signel????????????

Default Anyone know what driver to use with this - 04-12-2010, 12:52 AM

Dell GPS | Get Dell GPS at SourceForge.net

This little tool lets you turn on and off the GPS functionality of a DELL 5530 mobile broadband mini pci-e card, which is also known as Sony Ericsson MBM F3705g. Furthermore it shows the NMEA output of the GPS receiver.

Hi
I installed new 5530 drivers A14 Dell - Search - All Dell.com
on mini9/win7. I can confirm that mobile broadband and GPS works.

Mobile broadband works perfect, dont even have to change any configuration.
GPS recieve lots of data, however either the signal is to weak or I'm not able to get it to work with google earth.

Dont know why nobody have mentioned this on this forum but there is a EXCELENT tool for enable/disable gps from linpusw81.
Check out: Dell GPS | Get Dell GPS at SourceForge.net

Default WWAN 5530 query - 05-11-2010, 08:40 AM

Hi

I have been reading through this thread attempting to find a fix for a strange problem on both my and my daughters DM9s both with SL 10.6.2 and 5530 cards and I noted that you have a dual install and wondered if you use WWAN on SL to connect to the WWW. My problem:

I can connect using Dell Mobile Broadband and Sony Ericsson in NETWORK.
I am on UK 3 contract.

BUT can only open max 10 web pages then the connecting wheel goes around forever!

Minihack offered constructive advice / screenshots and even an alternative modem script but all return the same result. In the Windows world it appears there is a similar problem around that is cured with Sony Ericsson manager 5 and new drivers within but clearly I can't use that on SL - so just wondering if yours works OK on SL?
