I tried this out and it works. I had to reboot before the connection manager would pick up the 5530.

Well at last it works and I boy am i pleased!

Many thanks to Carolina for the impetus on this new thread - I'm sure if I hadn't screwed up the ndis/unic bit it would have worked fine.

I followed dellboys steps and also found the following match ups of drivers, devices and directories if anyone else had the same problems I had.

The following is the order the drivers appear to install following dellboy's method. The only real must follow points are doing the USB one first, and making sure you do the unic network driver before the ndis driver.

The only difference I could see in the ndis device and the unci device are that the ndis device shows up as being "for NetworkAdaptor" at the end of it's description.

I installed the Dell branded connection manager, version 5.2.1045.43 and lo! a GPS option appeared uner the view menu!

Anyway, once more a big thanks to all previous posters who helped on this and the previous thread.

Hi Steve,

Would you please publish the file "d553sc.inf" as i always have a problem installing the minicard PC SC Port. I have checked and i have a diferent name for the .inf file than yours. Mine is called "d553scard.inf" and maybe with yours i managed to get that part installed as well.

Brilliant! So easy to do, even for me a complete novice at modding anything.

Now that I have my GPS enabled, I have a couple of questions;

I bought the Vodafone Mini9 from PCWorld where you don't have to buy the subscription. I therefore do not have a 3G Sim for my mini. Is there any way I can use the GPS without having to use the 3G sim from my phone?

Secondly I therefore will also not be connected to t'internet when I use it. So no Google Earth. Does anyone know if there is any software I can use; preferably giving me a Sat Nav type experience?

Yeah, I would also like to know what you can do with GPS on the mini 9 once you have it working?

ever since I did this the GPS works fine, but I can only connect to the internet using the modem option in Network properties. If I use the dell software and press connect, it times out.
Any ideas to fix this?:

100% brilliant - GPS works just fine found location etc now just need to find some software that can take advantage of the fact that this chipset has a built in GPS!!!!!

Why the hell don't they advertise this????? after all it's a benefit to Dell so what free software is out there to actually play with this???

ahh... sorry, I suspect this may have been a typographical error on my part. Do all the other parts install OK? Did you follow dellboy's trick which forces a reinstall of all the drivers in a cascade. This actually worked for me, but I'd too many software conflicts to get the GPS bit of it working.

I use Fugawi, which is great. Pricey, but I do like it. If you prefer something a little cheaper, then have a look at this month's PDA Essentials magazien in the shope (UK only, but I'm sure there are equivalents worldwide) which has a review of GPS / mapping software. They're PDA (WM5/6) targetted, but most come with a "Daddy" PC version and some cost as little as £14.99 - fantastic value for full OS mapping!

Sorted the GPS on UK Vodafone Mini... nice was Caroline and Dellboy (used a combination of both methods and it works fine). Now what! Earthbridge doesn't find the gps. Help!
