Default Verizon USB UM175 on Dell Mini with Ubunti - 01-05-2009, 09:03 PM

I have found some posts on how to get my Verizon card to be reconized by Ubuntu but non seem to work for me and it is very frustrating. I have downloaded gnome-ppp and starting there, I don't know where to put it, so I have left it on the desktop. Can someone make this simple for me I am new to linux.

Have you programmed the authorization code into the UM175? I was having a problem with my UM100 modem until I got the authorization code programmed into the modem using Windows Vista. My UM100 is for Cricket and the installation program was only for Windows.

The UM175 works fine on my Sony Vaio Running Windows XP. I called Verizon tech support and they said they do not support
Linux. However on some other blogs they seem to have several solutions but I have been unable to make them work. Including the post by jcostom How to: Verizon UM 175 USB EVDO under Hardy (Ubuntu Forums). I can not get gnome-ppp to launch to start his method.
