Question Service Providers with 5530 HSPA WWAN Card? - 02-08-2010, 04:28 AM

So my Dell Mini10v, which was purchased at the outlet, came with a 5530 HSPA mini mobile broadband card.

I've been googling like crazy, but all I can find are people talking about Vodafone, and they are all in the UK (I am in Philadelphia, US). Did I buy a computer that was intended for the UK?

Well, I went on dell.com, and chatted with a sales person, who transferred me to their technical sales team. I was pretending to be purchasing. He told me that the 5530 was only compatible with AT&T, but then said that there would be options when I configured it to use Sprint or Verizon. I asked if he meant that I shouldn't select those two, and his answer was non-committal.

So, what services can I use with my 5530 in the US? Anyone got any clue?

Thanks!

Your choices for HSPA in the US are AT&T, AT&T and, um, AT&T. Not Sprint nor Verizon which use incompatible systems. It won't even work with T-Mobile, as it uses non-standard frequencies.

Actually, the 5530/40 card will work with T-Mobile in the US, but you'll only be able to access the slower Edge network, not 3G.
