Hi Montala - tried loads of different sims, contract and PAYG from different providers all over the world. T-Mobile - PAYG, Orange - PAYG / Contract, O2 - both as well, AT&T - both in the states and roaming back in the UK.
Tried local sims in Cyprus, Germany, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tenerife, Malta, Spain, Gibraltar and Ireland. That's just this year but a work colleague has also done Singapore and India.
I actually had the Vodafone sim that comes with the Mini 9 on contract blocked in Malta a month ago but that was just because I didn't have roaming on the sim enabled.
Goto Control panels and remove VMC and anything else that mentions Vodafone.
Next go to My Computer on the desktop. Right Mouse click and get to properties - Hardware Devices. Look for anything with Dell 5530 blah blah in
Smart Card Readers
I thought there was 6 items but I'm looking on Windoze 7 so it may be different.
Anyway you delete them and if it doesn't automatically refresh the changes you just go to Action - Scan for hardware changes / Update drivers and point them to drivers I'll upload at work tomorrow. Once they are installed manually you're off with gps as well.
What I found was no matter what I did the modem wouldn't allow you to connect any other sim while the Vodafone software was installed - same across four different Mini 9's.
All worked OK once the drivers were removed and changed. On the gps I get the data coming in but for some reason even with Earthbridge installed the gps never works.
Hang on Montala - I just remembered and searched for the details on this site. just wait one dude.

Hi Montala - If you do this to get to the gps it frees up the 5330...
Hi all, Thanks for this information, excellent stuff. I had heard rumours about this little fella and it's GPS but never spent much time looking into it.
I joined just to express my thanks for the hard work that lead me to getting mine working.
In order to update the drivers to the ones that include the GPS port I approached it slightly differently.
1. Uninstalled the Dell wireless 5530 HSPA Broadband Minicard Device entry under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and this removed all accompanying hardware for this card from Dev Manager.
1. I entered a search for *.inf and then in the containing text field entered 5530.
** Include hidden fiels and folders and system files etc then point at c:\windows\inf and search.
2. With the returned results, there will be a list of 7 inf files labelled oem***.inf (where xxx = a number).
Check that they are relevant to the minicard by opening them and reading the description usually in the top few lines of text.
3. Delete these files and then from Device Manager perform a Scan For Hardware Changes and you should now get Found NEw Hardware Wizards.
4. I then just pointed each piece of Found New Hardware at the apprpriate folder with the new set of drivers and eventually I got the GPS port appearing in ports.
I have replaced VMC for the Dell / Ericsson connection manager. I even used to support VMC but consider an pp of 5.95mb with the desired functionality (GPS switch) more acceptable than an 86mb mammoth VMC install just for Mobile Broadband and SMS.
Going to be givign a couple of other things a whirl now and see what can be acheived with this.
Thanks again everyone.
I have tried mappoint and it recognises and accepts the GPS receiver nicely.
