Default WWAN - Flight Safe mode in OS X? - 09-20-2009, 05:24 PM

Don't have my WWAN set-up yet, but in OS-X, is the WWAN RF system disabled when disconnected, and thus flight safe?

I'd have assumed so, as it would save power anyway, but want to check before I fly with my Mini with WWAN.

I know that GSM 2G and 3G is, in reality, unlikely to cause any issues with in-flight avionics - but I also like to comply with legislation... I particularly dislike people with an "I know better" attitude in such sitations.

Default flight safe mode :) - 02-03-2010, 09:47 PM

Hi,

I'm assuming you have enjoyed your flight by now...
but if you really want to make it safe you could always use a terminal and talk to the wwan card and set AT*CFUN=0 and thus disabling the card till reboot...
I know on my machine the card power on in CFUN=4 which is card active but all radios down, and it needs to be turned on (CFUN=1) either by the network manager tool in windows or the dial script / gps script in OSX / linux....

I hope this helps
